There is a very simple explanation for this.

Companies like A4e are setup primarily to get Government cash. You will notice their income is primarily from Government. Before they got their first contract they weren’t delivering services in their own right i.e. employment agency etc. – its all about having the right contacts such as Blunkett and A4e etc.

The target is getting you a job – or leeching after you get yourself a job. There is no incentive of helping you get a decent job as they receive no more money for it. This means they want you on National Minimum Wage.

Besides its the Employee Vs “Unemployed Scum” – or so they see it. Why would they take pride in seeing you develop into getting a better paid job then themselves?

Staff wont like to admit it but working for a company like A4e is pretty much a dead-end job. These employees typically rotate between different welfare-2-work employers or agencies. Regardless of this, they have a full time job which is perfect for them at the moment. There isn’t a real sense of achievement in the job, and being under pressure to reach targets, jealousy and being spiteful isn’t rare at all.

Besides, they strive on unemployment. They want you to get into the bottom end, dead end jobs on NMW where its likely you wont stick to them. This means they get another chance of making money in the future. Otherwise they might aswell give up – as in a few years their turnover could half if they tried solving unemployment.

Sadly, these providers delivering these courses over the years typically, see the same faces over and over again – around 1 in 3. They love these type – its like having a repeat customer!

if its Flexible New Deal you are refering to they have the powers of applying for sanctions directly to a decision maker. These are fixed (2 week, 4 week and 26 week) except for failing to apply for a job/turning down an employment opportunity where a full blown 6 month variable sanction is awarded.

Its messed up! This needs to be outlawed.

I am glad you like the sites and I struggle to keep up with them – with other life commitments and the research etc. I would appreciate you spreading the word. Apart from search engine traffic the only promotion we have is people spreading the word… (I don’t have any banner adverts and link exchanges etc.)

yeah, I have tried to keep the sites relevant to all. Some are facts – others are experiences of mine and others. Sadly enough most of the stuff happening around Ipswich is mirrored elsewhere!

I also agree with the comments above that the Benefits system is in a mess.

It also makes me laugh that both the Jobcentre and A4E (when they had the New Deal contract) said you shouldn’t put up barriers that harm your chances to get work, when barriers already exist!

For example, I would like to do a Web Design distance learning course (that would give me more or less the same qualifications as a Uni degree), but they won’t fund it because a) it isn’t a recognised college and b) there are no fixed hours for learning. So its okay for me to do a basic, crappy IT course at the local college, but not okay for me to do a distance learning course that would improve my chances of getting a decent paid job exponentially? That’s just stupid!

It sometimes feels like they don’t want to help me get into a decent job. Although if I did get a decent, well-paid job I wouldn’t have to sign-on ever again!

Now I will have to go on to this Serco course (the company that now have A4E’s old contract) and do a job search with someone breathing down my neck every week. I would like to not go, just out of spite and see what they do. Apparently they have powers to stop people’s benefits without consulting the Jobcentre, which I am sure must be illegal. It just doesn’t seem right!

If they do stop my benefit, how long would they conceivably stop it for?

I love reading all your blogs, a lot of what is said are experiences and other things I can relate to, especially the A4E stuff! Some of the blogs give me hope and often inspiration too.

I think you would get more people to your cause and more people reading your blogs, if you created a “New Deal Scandal” Facebook Group and/or a Twitter feed. I’m on both of those sites.

Is it okay to post links to your site from Twitter or Facebook? I would be more than happy to promote this website to everyone!

Even though I’m not in Ipswich (I actually live in North East Wales) the information on your website is relevant to me and others like me.

regarding the recent revelations about A4e. I was forced to go to
that stinking pool of scum in Newcastle for three months, (the scum I
refer to is the staff) I witnessed by staff bullying, trivial reasons
for forced attendants who were exited, and even drug smoking by staff!
A4e would not let forced unemployed to use their lifts they claimed
they were used by us as a toilet. Re bullying at Newcastle I was
looking at a job lead board and a so called tutor Bernie told me to get
back into the classroom, I did put in a written complaint about her and
nothing happened this thuggish behaviour is common practice. Few will
challenge these thugs who work at a4e. I had three months of having to
argue with this woman who is called Bernie. She wanted to get me exited
the arguments ranged from the trivial. I would not take the bait by
swearing at this woman for this would have given her the chance of
exiting me.
One person came in and got a job off his own back his brother
offered him a job in his own restaurant and staff at a4e Newcastle
forced him to say a4e in particular a man called Steve got him the
job. The man who is in charge of the IT room asked me what
type of work I was looking for I said photography and he laughed out
load and said Ohh I suppose you have a nvq in photography have you? I
replied No I have a college degree! He then asked me some what he
considered were testing questions about photography after a few minutes
this thug was beginning to believe me.
A4e break health and safety rules I was on the gateway and 70
people were crowded into a room, the windows at Newcastle cannot be
opened for they fall out, labels are on all windows for them not to be
opened. The place stinks and is too hot to sit in even in winter. I
contacted the fire chief at the fire brigade and nothing was done about
overcrowding etc etc. I know this to be still true for one of my
friends has just been sent to A4e Action 4 exploitation.
The reception Newcastle has an image of that fraudster woman who owns a4e she appears like a Stalinist dictator. Staff
at a4e would be jumping for joy when someone got a placement at
poundland. They would say that person has a job I said to Bernie is
this person paid or is she on a work trial? Turned out she was on a
work trail I text ed her and asked her she told me she had to go there
and work for nothing or she would be exited from A4e.
I can sincerely say that In my hard time at A4e no one got a job this is out of around 90 people from 3 rooms. NOT ONE PERSON.I
asked Bernie not to call her self a tutor and she took offense I
discovered that she has no relevant qualifications , it is an insult
to people who have slaved hard to get a college degree. Bernie asked me
how was my time at a4e prior to leaving I said it was soporific she
then asked how do you spell that and in a panic stricken voice what
does it mean?
If you want to get people back into work make work affordable when
I worked full time I was paying £280 rent a month, I have relatives who
earn 40k a year and pay less than 200 a month. Its a poverty stricken
existence, paying that much rent will always keep a single person down.
It wou;ld be unwise for me to buy my property the m,maths dont make it
worthwhile for the service chargers make you worse off.
Please please dont renew your contract with A4e they are thugs, thieves, bully’s, and uneducated.
